On a daily basis, I need to make decisions that affect the course and ultimate success of each project that I lead. Despite the ambivalence that is common towards those in leadership, I never fail to share the vision and the overall goal with my team, ensuring that each member remains focused on the goal, avoiding distractions that could arise, thus, empowering them to win alongside me.
I chose engineering because I wanted to contribute to society in a way that is best suited by aptitude and skill sets. I enjoy hands-on and practical learning. I work well as part of a team and also alone. It is most rewarding for me to see a concept come to life moreover, serving the community both tangibly and intangibly.
I lead capital expenditure projects from its conceptual phase up to commissioning and handover. I am responsible for budgeting, equipment selection, and procurement of assets and services. I review Risk Assessment and Method Statement (RAMS) alongside the HSSE staff and open permit to work forms. I also chair HAZOP studies before implementation to ensure a safe operational plant. I constantly liaise with management, contractors, and staff throughout the project lifespan, updating management on monthly spend relative to initial budget, contractors' progress and staff contributions, and teamwork.
Apart from becoming a Chartered Engineer in my twenties, I strongly consider enjoying my career in engineering and delivering an outstanding job to date, my most proud career achievement.
